Roles & Granular Permissions for Teams: Permissions that match how your team works

Organization roles, custom roles and per-space, category or room overrides cover 23 individual permissions, all enforced on the server.

Roles, plus overrides where you need them

Every organization starts with Owner, Admin, Manager, Member, and Guest roles, each with its own default permission bundle you can customize. Add fully custom roles on top, with their own name, color, and permission list.

  • Default roles with a customizable permission bundle per organization
  • Unlimited custom roles, assignable alongside a member’s base role
  • Per-space, per-category, and per-room permission overrides
  • The Owner always keeps every permission, so an organization can never lock itself out

Enforced where it counts

The server itself refuses a denied permission, so it isn’t just hidden in the interface. When a role loses access to a room, the room disappears from the sidebar. The server refuses the request even if the browser hasn’t caught up yet.

What do roles control in practice?

Permissions decide who can post embeds and buttons, which Managers, Admins and the Owner can do by default. Billing is limited to the Owner and Admins. The audit log is visible to anyone with permission to manage the organization. A support role answers ticket rooms.

Can you see who changed a role?

On Business, Enterprise and Education, role changes and permission overrides land in the audit log automatically. Free and Starter don’t include the log. You can search it by member, action and date.
