The rules a rota has to respect.
Shops, hotels and restaurants rarely break the labour law on purpose. They break it in the rota: a long shift with no break, a holiday worked and not made up, a Ramadan week planned at full length.
| The rule | What it means for HR | |
|---|---|---|
| Breaks | At least an hour of breaks in the day, so no one works more than five hours in a row | A ten-hour split shift needs its breaks placed in the pattern, not left to the floor manager |
| Working day | Eight hours a day or 48 a week; overtime of no more than two hours a day | Peak weeks show up as overtime, and overtime needs an approval before payroll |
| Ramadan | The working day is two hours shorter in the private sector | A shift pattern still set at eight hours makes every employee look short and starts overtime late |
| Public holidays | Work on a public holiday earns another day off for each day worked, or the day's wage plus at least 50% of basic | Choose the day in lieu or the pay before the holiday, and record which one each person got |
| Rest day | At least one paid rest day a week. The company chooses which day, and it can differ by branch or shift | Rest days on the rota, per branch, rather than one company weekend |
| Annual leave | Two days a month between six months' and a year's service, then 30 calendar days a year | New joiners accrue from six months, which matters in a workforce that turns over every year |
Worked example: a cashier on Eid
A cashier earns AED 4,500 a month, of which AED 3,000 is basic. Her day's wage is AED 150 (4,500 ÷ 30) and her daily basic AED 100. If she works on Eid and the store pays rather than giving a day off, she is owed the day's wage plus at least half her daily basic: AED 150 + AED 50 = AED 200 for the day.
In Ramadan the same cashier's eight-hour shift becomes six. In DenwaysHR a dated Ramadan rule shortens the day for everyone or for the people HR names, so her overtime starts after six hours, not eight, and the weekly limit falls from 48 hours to 36.
Retail
Shift patterns configured once, applied every week
Retail rosters are rebuilt constantly. The rules underneath them should not be, and the allowances attached to them should never be calculated by hand.
- Configurable shift patterns per branch and per role
- Per-employee shift assignment
- Shift allowance rules applied automatically
- Break tracking with start, stop and history

Retail
Every branch, in one view
A district manager should not open five systems to see who turned up. One account covers every location with the right people seeing the right branch.
- Multi-branch support on every plan
- Branch-scoped visibility for branch managers
- Live today view across locations
- Biometric terminals or mobile check-in per site

Retail
Leave approved with coverage in front of you
Approving leave without seeing who else is off is how a Saturday ends up understaffed. The team calendar sits with the decision.
- Team leave calendar showing who is out and when
- Approval chain built from the reporting hierarchy
- Requests transferable when a manager is away
- Real-time balances employees can check themselves

Retail
Hiring that keeps pace with turnover
In retail the pipeline never closes. A branded careers page and a configurable pipeline turn constant hiring into a process rather than a scramble.
- Job requisitions tracked by branch and department
- Configurable candidate pipeline with interview scheduling
- A public careers page candidates apply on directly
- A hired candidate becomes an employee record immediately

Every week changes. The rules do not.
Retail HR breaks when the roster is rebuilt from scratch and the pay rules are rebuilt with it.
The roster
- Patterns configured once per role

- Breaks tracked with history
The branch
- One account across every site
- Branch-scoped manager visibility
- Coverage visible before approvals
The pipeline
- Requisitions tracked by branch
- A careers page always open
- Onboarding checklists on day one
Questions
Retail questions, answered.
Can shift patterns differ by branch and by role?
Yes. Shift patterns are configurable and assigned per employee, with shift allowance rules applied automatically, so a night pattern in one branch and a split shift in another are both handled by rules rather than by hand.
How do we handle split shifts and breaks?
Breaks are tracked with start and stop times and a full history, which keeps paid and unpaid time separate from worked hours. That is what makes a split shift measurable rather than estimated.
Can a branch manager see only their own branch?
Yes. Multi-branch support is on every plan, and branch-scoped visibility means a branch manager sees their own location's employees, attendance and reporting rather than the whole company's.
Does the system help with coverage when approving leave?
The team leave calendar shows who is out and when across the team, so a manager sees coverage at the moment of the decision instead of discovering the gap on the day.
How does it handle constant hiring?
Job requisitions are tracked by department, candidates move through a pipeline you configure, and a branded public careers page takes applications directly. When somebody is hired, that candidate record becomes the employee record, so onboarding does not start with re-typing.
What do part-time and hourly staff use?
The web app on their own phone, for check-in and check-out with selfie and GPS, leave requests and payslips. Nothing needs installing; a native mobile app is in development.
