How end-of-service gratuity is calculated in Qatar

Qatar sets a minimum end-of-service gratuity in the Labour Law, Law No. 14 of 2004: three weeks of basic wage for every year of service, once the employee has completed a year.

The Qatar rules the calculator applies

  • Entitlement begins after one year of service with the employer
  • It is calculated on the last basic wage. Allowances are left out
  • At least three weeks of basic wage for each year of service
  • Parts of a year count in proportion
  • The employment contract may give more than this minimum, never less

The calculator works out the statutory minimum, using a daily wage of basic ÷ 30 and 21 days for each year. If your contract promises more, the contract figure applies.

A worked example

Basic wage of QAR 7,500 a month, six and a half years of service.

Daily basic wage (7,500 ÷ 30)
QAR 250
Three weeks for each year (21 × 250)
QAR 5,250
Six and a half years (6.5 × 5,250)
QAR 34,125
Minimum gratuity owed
QAR 34,125

More in the full FAQ

How is gratuity calculated in Qatar?

Divide the last basic monthly wage by 30 for a daily wage, then multiply by 21 days for each year of service, counting part years in proportion. That is the minimum the Labour Law requires once a year of service is complete.

Is gratuity in Qatar calculated on basic or total salary?

On the basic wage. Housing, transport and other allowances are left out unless the employment contract says otherwise.

Is gratuity paid with less than one year of service in Qatar?

No. The entitlement starts once the employee has completed one year of service with the employer.

Can an employer pay more than three weeks a year?

Yes. Three weeks of basic wage for each year is the floor. A contract or company policy may set a higher rate, and then that rate applies.

Can I rely on the figure this calculator gives?

The calculator gives the statutory minimum and shows every step. The contract and the exact dates decide the final amount, so treat it as a check and confirm a settlement with your HR team or legal adviser.
